This affair story involving two very high profile people in Detroit has got the city very angry at its so-called leaders. Seems like Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his Chief of Staff Christine Beatty not only had an affair in 2002-2003, but lied about it under oath and there is proof. 14,000 text messages sent between the two.
The 14,000 messages reveal the two carried on a flirty, sometimes sexually explicit dialogue about where to meet and how to conceal their numerous trysts.
“I’m madly in love with you,” Kilpatrick wrote on Oct. 3, 2002.
“I hope you feel that way for a long time,” Beatty replied. “In case you haven’t noticed, I am madly in love with you, too!”
On Oct. 16, 2002, Kilpatrick wrote Beatty: “I’ve been dreaming all day about having you all to myself for 3 days. Relaxing, laughing, talking, sleeping and making love.”
Contrary to their testimony, I’d say that is sounds like someone was having an affair!
Kwame Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty testified in a case involving a lawsuit filed by two police officers who alleged they were fired for investigating claims that the mayor used his security unit to cover up extramarital affairs.
This affair is proving costly for both parties involved, not only emotionally and socially, but also financially.
The lawsuit ended with the jury awarding $6.5 million to the two officers. The payout eventually grew to more than $8.5 million. The City of Detroit are going be footing the bill for this illicit liason and so far, one of the two involved is now without a job.
In a letter to Kilpatrick that was released by his office, Christine Beatty said she believes she can no longer effectively carry out her duties. Her resignation takes effect Feb. 8.
“I painfully regret the devastation that the recent reports have caused to the citizens of Detroit, to my co workers, to the Mayor’s family and to my family and friends,” Beatty wrote in the letter.
Kilpatrick, in trying to get this affair behind him and out of the minds of Detroit taxpayers and voters, recently issued a statement. In the statement, Kilpatrick did not deny the relationship or apologize for it. The statement said “these five- and six-year-old text messages reflect a very difficult period in my personal life.
“It is profoundly embarrassing to have these extremely private messages now displayed in such a public manner,” he said.
“My wife and I worked our way through these intensely personal issues years ago. I would now ask that the public and the media respect the privacy of my wife and children and of Christine Beatty and her children at this deeply painful moment for our families.”
Sure his wife and kids may have forgiven him, but will the City of Detroit?
